Biography
Alberto Madril, born March 20, 1950, is a retired American professional wrestler whose career spanned from the 1970s through the early 1990s.
He began wrestling in 1970 with Pacific Northwest Wrestling, where he won the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship alongside José González as part of the tag team The Compadres. Under the ring name Leo Madril, he also competed in Canada’s NWA All-Star Wrestling, capturing the Vancouver version of the NWA Canadian Tag Team Championship twice—once with Flash Gordon and once with Dan Kroffat.
Later, he moved to Texas, where he became a prominent figure in the regional wrestling scene. In 1975, he won the NWA Texas Heavyweight Championship three times and captured the NWA Texas Tag Team Championship twice with José Lothario. In 1984, he briefly wrestled for the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).
During the 1980s, Madril mentored and traveled with a young Shawn Michaels, who was trained by Madril’s former tag team partner José Lothario. Michaels credits Madril with introducing him to Elvis Presley’s music, which later influenced his "Heartbreak Kid" persona and the WWF interview segment Heartbreak Hotel.
Madril is also known for his intense feud with the Von Erich family between late 1986 and 1987. Teaming with Brian Adias as the Duo of Doom, he became a top antagonist in World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW). The storyline included a memorable moment where Madril attacked Kerry Von Erich—still recovering from a motorcycle accident—using one of Kerry’s crutches. Madril and Adias would go on to win the WCCW World Tag Team Championship while continuing their feud with the Von Erichs through mid-1987.
Al Madril retired from professional wrestling in 1993. He currently works as a hospital security guard in Los Angeles.
