Captain Gennady Nevelskoy, an excellent student at the Naval Academy, because of his talent, instead of conquering distant seas, he is forced to teach marine science to the Tsarevich, watching as other people's dreams replace his own. 14-year-old Nadezhda, a young pupil of the Institute of noble maidens, has not managed to find her place in the capital.
